Objectives
The proposal aims to develop tools and business models to revitalize the forestry value chain and strengthen its vital role in mitigating climate change, through its carbon sequestration capacity and by providing materials with lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Project
Expand and improve partnership models with the aim of promoting sustainable forest management to provide ecosystem services and timber for durable products.
To improve climate change mitigation outcomes in forest-wood value chains by engaging and training key stakeholders and developing an action plan.
Strengthen existing systems and develop business models for offsetting emissions both within and outside the value chain by improving and developing payments for ecosystem services.
Key actions:
- Increase the area of sustainably managed forests by working with forest owners to promote innovative governance models and improve forest management practices.
- Assess the impacts on carbon sequestration and ecosystem services using a globally recognized procedure (FSC-ES-PRO).
- Track the carbon stored in harvested wood products by establishing monitoring protocols.
- Support timber companies in reducing emissions and having a positive impact on the environment and rural communities by adopting an inclusive approach while shortening supply chains.
Our contribution
Lignum Tech is an innovative SME dedicated to the development and manufacture of industrialized construction systems for multi-story residential buildings. It is committed to the sustainability of its solutions, which is why it has chosen wood as its primary material. With its production centers located near large forest areas, Lignum Tech promotes a new system of sustainable forest management, not only at the local and regional levels, but also by striving to achieve an optimal management model that can be easily replicated in other forested regions of the European Union. From the outset, the company has adopted FSC and PEFC certifications for its chain of custody.
Lignum Tech plays a pivotal role in the regional timber market chain, first establishing and then promoting best practices to protect the environment and enhance the ecological value of land with potential for forest use. Furthermore, it assumes a leadership role within the timber processing industry, serving as a key player in driving the necessary momentum.
Lignum Tech’s board of directors possesses extensive knowledge of the construction sector and specializes in wood-based systems. Consequently, Lignum Tech is expected to make a significant contribution to the preparatory activities related to economic aspects, as well as to the development of a protocol that can be adopted by all actors in the supply chain and have a significant impact on climate change mitigation. Finally, Lignum Tech will contribute to communication and networking activities, not only with other companies in the sector but also with regulatory authorities and key stakeholders, as the president and founder of Lignum Tech is a well-known leader in the real estate sector and the current president of the Building Cluster.
